This new Facebook widget is no joke …
Posted by Bob Benz
You don’t have to be an April fool to love this one. Maroon Gadgeteering, a subsidiary of Maroon Ventures, has announced the launch of OpenMic, a new widget on Facebook. It’s designed to let people on social networks tell jokes, applaud jokers they like and heckle bad humor.
This will be the first in a series of widgets for mobile and social platforms that will emerge from Maroon Gadgeteering. Rest assured there are more on the way, ranging from the irreverent to the indespensible.
In the meantime, check out Open Mic by downloading it to your Facebook profile. I’d be happy to send you an invite if you like. Just e-mail me.
And keep an eye out for other widgets emerging from Maroon Gadgeteering by checking our In the News page regularly.

Sounds like another dumb facebook app to waste my time. Please don’t poke me with that.

I’m sure to a lot of folks, it is a dumb idea. To others it will be a blast.
Two points:
1. It takes only a second to click “ignore” if you don’t want the app when someone has invited you. It probably took you longer to post your comment.
2. Unlike some other Facebook apps, this one doesn’t try to trick you into spamming your friends with invites and forwards. You have to click each friend you want to send to. It doesn’t default to everyone and force you to unclick the people you don’t want to send to.
